History
Just when the grapevine came to Pavlov is not known, but it is assumed to be one of the oldest winemaking villages. According to chronicles, in 1444 it was the largest wine town in the Mikulov estate. At the beginning of the 17th century a total of 53 % of the peasants' land was planted with grapevines. The Thirty Years' War severely disrupted the local viticulture, but the post-war recovery is reflected in the proud Baroque gables of the farmer's houses and wine cellars on today's Česká Street. Another blow was the invasion of the vine aphid Phylloxera vastatrix in the 19th century, when the grapevines had to be dug up and replanted with new, resistant root stock.

The present
At present there are 172,4 registered hectares of vineyard in Pavlov. However, the total are of vineyard tract, in other words the maximum possible area of vineyard in Pavlov is much greater at 316 ha. In Pavlov today there are fifteen vintners registered with the Viticulture Fund.
